Magster invades KL

Yes, very much backdated from September...but again, can say I was waiting for photos..this time from Reformed Alco Bear Marv

Anyway...can't remember which long weekend it was in Sept, but we did the usual girly, party thing at Velvet..only diff was this time Marv graced us with his presence...even tho he had his crutches with him

Gerald joined us too and we mostly behaved ourselves (mostly )

Henry and Hal in KL August 2009- Pt 3

Couple of nights out..one bar hop night that turned out to be a "stay put in one bar" night and a last, big, yummy, piggy dinner, drinks and chat just before H&H took off back to Abu Dhabi and Germany

The Friday night started with an indulgent, super yummy piggy dinner, washed down with much fresh Hoegaarden on tap and sangria

The food was yummy and so was the communal eating atmosphere. There were 12 or 13 of us if I remember correctly and we did the whole hog (literally )

Other the the whole roast piglet, we had the cold meat starter platter which had serrano and proscuitto hams, salami and assorted olives and pickles, some sausages and mash, iberico pork ribs, black pig steak (which was truly, truly delicious...texture of a lovely, tender beef steak and a distinctly non-piggy flavour) plus a dessert selection

Ze little piglet who was our dinner. Marinated overnight in white wine and herbs in order to be tender, melt in the mouth and soft enough to cut with a plate

Tradition to cut the pig with the plate and add good wishes, then you smash the plate so it takes all the bad luck away...perfect for a good start of life together

Mostly happy after food and drink...waiting for dessert.

And after dinner, it was off to 21 for drinks and yak

It was on a weekday and blur me was waiting for Henz to confirm so I could take the morning off but I ended up not being able to cos it was so last minute

But Hal looked gorgeous and the hat Jacquie made for her was just the perfect touch to finish off the outfit

Henz for once looked super smashing handsome in his suit and barely any monkey faced, cock eyed pictures

Can't wait for the wedding proper..whenever (and wherever) that may be

Henry and Hal in KL August 2009- Pt 2

What used to be a Sunday brunch-lunch ritual (in rotation with BKT and vinegar stewed pig trotters or dimsum) has now been reduced to an occasional thing. It was on the list of "must haves" for the 2 weeks H&H and Monica were around

It really was a Sunday lunch this time, after a night out on Saturday, if I'm not mistaken

Per tradition, we sat outside and ordered everyone's favourites; fried sotong, fried chicken, fish cutlets, prawn curry, chicken something or another, rasam, pickles, pudina, pappadams, the works

Henry and Hal in KL August 2009- Pt 1

H&H came back to KL for a visit in August...and to get legally bound (sans wedding, which will be much later). Post is super delayed cos Henz didn't load up any of the photos till a couple of days ago.

It was a rushed, slightly under 2 week trip cos they had so much to do and so many people to catch up with.

We tried to meet up as much as possible and to cover as much "missed food" as possible; notably BKT plus all the extra spare parts Hal loves, vineagar stewed pig trotters, the glorious (and stinky to puke inducing for Pohgs) king of fruits, Kanna Curry house with all the trimmings especially the fried sotong and much home cooked food...

Other then food, there was of course the registration, and happy nights out

First meet up not long after they arrived in KL. Weekday dinner with loose flexi time so everyone could make it post work. I was late as usual...

And Hal and Monica actually scared all of us cos they wandered off in the mall sans handphone. We had to search for them in a closed mall past 11 p.m when they didn't come back

We went to watch Stephanie perform, along with Elvira, Llew and another wonderful vocalist who's name slips my mind at the moment.

It was a thoroughly enjoyable show, for me...and most of us (Urfi seemed a little bored, but he had his Blackberry, so all ok on Planet Urfi)

We had a lovely bottle of Reisling at NBT and yummy BKT in the rain at a grungy restaurant along Jalan Ipoh

MACC's 1st EGM @PJLA theatre

Went with Joe a couple of weeks back for the Sunday show. We wanted to catch Jenhan in action (Ok I did. Joe's seen him at it a couple of times before). It was good and Jenhan was great.

I've actually caught Douglas Lim's MACC act at the Effies a few weeks earlier and I really enjoyed it..

For just under RM40, it was an excellent way to spend Sunday afternoon, followed by Joe helping me pick out a new pair of heels for Yen and Eileen's wedding in a couple of weeks time

No pictures of the actual show, per request of both the comedians (apparently they don't want to end up in jail). So I only have before pics, from the quick lunch we had at Hanazen

I never realise how huge Jenhan is until I stand or sit near him

When I'm super busy at work and I'm stressed

The weekends become that much more precious and important

Sleep, food and me time in that order

If it's really bad...even the clubbing and socialising take a back seat, mainly cos I'm frazzled and don't feel like dealing with large groups

When I don't feel social, I just don't want a clubby, crowdy night out, no matter how "happening" the party, crowd or place may be

It's been superbusycrazyhectic the past weeks...effectively burning me down to a melted puddle of stressed out wax by the time the week ends

It's many long, drawn out meetings, working lunches of not very palatable food in meeting rooms or at my desk and late, late dinners (by which I'm too tired to eat much)

Unfortunately, it doesn't show in any weight loss ( the opposite maybe, cos of all the fast, junk food, coffee when I don't have a choice etc)

What it does show in are eye bags, bad skin and more grumpiness then usual

So yeah, weekends are a much needed respite. Even though two out of those 3 past weekends have been working ones, it's still the weekend

To indulge myself, it's been good food at least for one meal...normally addressing some sort of craving. Steamed fish with Ed and Urfi a couple of weeks ago and the weekend just past, lovely Korean BBQ at a new place called Sura, recomended by Bubbles Amanda

I normally go to Daorae in Sri Hartamas, near the Fire station and the Maybank. That one is quite good and very popular. It tends to be somewhat crowded...at least the times I've been there

Sura is in Sri Hartamas as well. Located above the 7 Eleven, and just below Kariza Designs. It's a much smaller place and when we got there just after 9p.m last Saturday, it was empty...likely past dinner time. I went with Pete ( yes the ex...we are friends remember? I see him once a week or every couple of weeks for dinner, brunch or those kinda things), who was a bit frazzled and needed a change in pace as well

Food was good...comparable to Daorae and the side dishes were pretty yums too

Service kept to the same standards..pricing as well. We had the beef tenderloin I think (RM40), and marinated pork ribs (RM30). Both very good... We also had the spicy tofu soup (RM15), which I liked a loi. It had loads of tofu, a whole egg, clams and what seemed like either some kinda barley like grain or minced meat mixture...I couldn't really tell

Pretty side dishes around the bbq and the sliced beef tenderloin. Pete's fave were the sticky, sweet fried anchovies and peanuts..mine of course was the kimchi and a spring onion, red pepper dressing salad and spinach

Steamed egg ( which Pete mostly ate. Eggs have never really been my thing) and the yummy spicy tofu soup that arrived steaming hot )

Was a good meal that left Pete feeling vaguely high (I have no idea why) and me a bit more relaxed.

Followed by wine and me time with the last of True Blood S2 in my room...

Kancil Awards 30-10-2009@ SDCC

Different venue this year...good thing it wasn't in Sunway again cos it was supermassivelyjammed just to get there.

It was ok. A little quieter then previous years...slightly subdued actually. Saatchi and BBDO didn't attend..not that we thought they would

The experience was totally different than last year and the year before. Ok I could say..but not great

Steamed fish@ Lan Je Kota Damansara

Is totally yummy.

Edwin PD has been promising to take me there for weeks, after out last search for steamed fish landed us in Cravings 1Utama for steamed pomfret (which, while yummy and home made tasting, didn't quite hit the spot, plus being slightly pricey at RM30 for a mid sized fish)

Anyway, we made it for a late-ish Saturday lunch, after Urfi's suit fitting at Edwin's dad's shop (more about that later, but Urf actually looks pretty good in a suit )

We got there at half twelve and had to wait about 20 mins for Urfi. I was entertained by a lovely little girl...

This is No...that's what she told me her name was when I asked her ( a couple of times mind you)...Her name is actually Rachel and she's Ed's niece but I'll call her No, since that's what she said her name was

No is 4 and has a younger sister she calls Baby (who's name is Chloe) and an older brother who was too busy watching Transformers 2 to layan us

No also shared her drawing with us. It was two people, a mystery butterfly looking creature and a pillow with a sunny side up egg, heart shaped bacon and square toast on it

And these are No's toes...so cute, wanna bite them right?

We left for Lan Je at half one or so and got there about two. It was about half full so there wasn't much of a wait ( maybe 15 to 2o mins, which I'm told is good ). We were lucky. We were the second last table to get fish, After that, no more fish...poor other people

While waiting, take photos. For a rainy day, it was surprisingly bright, hence the less then great pics (also my less then great skills )

Food, glorious food. We each had a fish to ourselves ( so indulgent right? apparently, that's how everyone there orders)

It was lovely. Think it was siakap, steamed just right, covered in lovely chopped ginger, chili padi (extra spicy, per our order), coriander and tau cheong...and no muddy freshwater fish taste at all. I attacked the head straightaway, followed by the tummy, fins, tail and finally the centre bit of flesh ( some of which I donated too Urf and Ed). I love, love, love steamed fish...more so the bony, finny bits then the actual flesh. Weird huh?

It was a thoroughly satisfying, yummy lunch...Bill came up to 79.90 for the 3 of us. 3 whole, large-ish fish (about 500-600 gms according to the man who took out order), token veggie ( 4 angle beans fried in belacan), rice, coconut water, 100 plus and Chinese tea...not too bad at all

I'm not actually sure how to get there (you know my amazing direction sense right?)...but here's the address if you decide to go there yourself...
